Educational Qualification :

UGC NET Mathematical Science Exam Pattern

Here some details given of UGC NET Exam.

  • The test will consist of two papers.
  • All the papers will have objective type questions.
  • Total 150 questions will be asked in NET which are divided into 2 papers.
    • Paper-I will have 50 questions, candidate must attempt 50 questions.(Each Question Carries 2 marks.)
    • Paper-II will have 100 questions(Compulsory).
  • The Paper-I consists of Reasoning Ability,  General Aptitude Questions and the paper-II contains questions related to the concerned subject.
  • Candidate can choose the paper medium either Hindi or English.
  • Time duration for Paper-1 will be 1 hour and Paper II will be 2 hours.
  • Each correct answer will carry 2 marks.
  • NO negative marking scheme in UGC NET.

Syllabus for Mathematical Science

Unit 1

  • Analysis: Elementary set theory, finite, countable and uncountable sets, Real number system as a Complete ordered field, Archimedean property.
  • Linear Algebra: Vector spaces, subspace, linear dependence, basis, dimension, algebra of linear transformations.

Unit 2

  • Complex Analysis: Algebra of complex numbers, the complex plane, polynomials, power series, transcendental functions such as exponential.
  • Algebra: Permutations, Combinations, Pigeon-hole principle, Inclusion-exclusion principle, Derangement.

Unit 3

  • Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs), Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), Numerical Analysis, Calculus of Variations, Linear Integral Equations, Classical Mechanics.

Unit 4

  • Methods of estimation, properties of estimators, confidence intervals. Tests of hypotheses: most powerful and uniformly most powerful tests, likelihood ratio tests. Analysis of discrete data and chi-square test of goodness of fit. Large sample tests. Simple non parametric tests for one and two sample problems, rank correlation and test for independence. Elementary Bayesian inference.
